The 3rd annual Jimmy Johnson’s Atlantic City ‘Quest for the Ring’ Championship Fishing Week will take place July 16-22, 2023 and features a $1 million + guaranteed purse, added categories for fishing enthusiasts, and a week full of hospitality for 100 fishing teams.
Atlantic City, NJ (JUNE 20, 2023) – Pro Football Hall of Fame Coach Jimmy Johnson is ready for another summer in the famed northeast for his world-class fishing tournament, coming from South Florida to Atlantic City, NJ. Coach Johnson has once again teamed up with the Atlantic City Sports Commission to tackle the waters of the northeast with a high stakes and overly entertaining competitive sportfishing experience in Atlantic City, July 16-22, 2023 hosted at the Frank S. Farley State Marina at Golden Nugget Casino, Hotel & Marina. Annually, Jimmy Johnson’s “Quest for the Ring” Championship Fishing Week, Florida (JJFISHWEEKFL) is hosted in March at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino’s Guitar Hotel with fishing happening across South Florida. The tournament features renowned parties, a guaranteed $1 million purse, and entry into Coach Johnson’s famed Ring of Honor, where an annual coveted championship ring is at stake. While this year’s tournament will see another $1 million guaranteed purse up for grabs, Jimmy Johnson’s Atlantic City ‘Quest for the Ring’ Championship Fishing Week (JJFISHWEEKAC) has added new, additional, optional calcuttas to the roster of categories that boats can enter to bring in more boats and a higher purse for 2023. Outside of the $1 million guaranteed purse calcuttas, there are new small boat tuna and marlin calcuttas, yellowfin and bigeye tuna aggregate weight categories, a catch and release category, added marlin categories, and an all-new overall high points category to award the boat with the highest points of the tournament.
The team from the Frank S. Farley Marina, managed by Golden Nugget Atlantic City, has been making significant improvements to continue to service the world-class tournament annually. There are new fueling options, staffing to maintain the week of events and more to ensure the hospitality is top-notch at this year’s tournament. While the competition is extreme and in just 3 years, the purse has continued to grow, this tournament also celebrates the magic of Atlantic City and prides itself on hospitality provided, unlike any other tournament. Teams are treated to nightly dining options on behalf of the tournament, whether it is with slipside service or in the tournament’s VIP Hospitality Village, which boasts dinners nightly for all participants and their guests, from BBQ to Italian Night to Steak night and more. There is no shortage of celebration all week long at JJFISHWEEKAC.
Significant events throughout the week include the Sunday, July 16th Kick-off Celebration on the rooftop of the Golden Nugget Casino, Hotel & Marina, the Ultimate Gifting Experience at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City on Saturday, July 22, where a wagon will be provided to help winners roll out all the goods, and a closing awards bash hosted by presenting sponsor, Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City and Chevrolet, featuring a night of live entertainment and more.
As part of JJFISHWEEKAC, the tournament has created a community wide initiative to help support the less fortunate. At JJ’s Catch for the Community station, presented by Greentree Mortgage, the tournament will be hosting a fillet station at the weigh-ins nightly. Teams can donate their weighed in catches and the fish will be filleted on the spot and donated to the Boys and Girls Club of Atlantic City, who will assist in cooking meals to feed underserved youth and families throughout Atlantic City. In years past, thousands of pounds of fish were donated to feed the community and the tournament looks forward to enhancing the program for 2023.
As Johnson continually states, “The best wasn’t the Super Bowl, the best was not University of Miami, the best is right now! These teams are part of THE BEST. We continue to grow each year and I am thrilled to expand our exciting and competitive fishing tournament week up to one of my favorite destinations, Atlantic City, NJ. We look forward to seeing everyone in July and remember, IT’S ALL ABOUT THE RING!”
“JJFISHWEEKAC is one of our favorite events of the year, and we are thrilled they will be returning to Atlantic City for the third time,” said Larry Sieg, President and CEO of Visit Atlantic City and the Atlantic City Sports Commission. “We look forward to showcasing our world-class destination to everyone participating in this year’s tournament and wish all competing teams luck on your quest for the ring!”
